Born from a dream and nurtured by family, Il Sogno has been part of Melbourne’s community since 2010. What began as a simple vision became a place where people come to slow down, connect and feel at home.
Every corner of Il Sogno reflects the values we grew up with — warmth, sincerity, and the belief that true hospitality is felt, not spoken. Over the years, Surrey Hills embraced us with the kindness open-hearted, down-to-earth and genuinely welcoming.
il Sogno is where Italian heritage met Australian warmth, where friendships are easy, conversations flow freely and strangers quickly become mates. Here, the spirit of Italy lives comfortably beside the Australian way of life. Il Sogno isn’t just a restaurant; it's a place where neighbours become friends, celebrations become traditions, and everyday moments feel a little more special.

At Il Sogno, we cook Italian food the Aussie way — relaxed, modern and full of heart. Our food is inspired by generations of Italian tradition, but we’re not bound by it. Instead, we blend classic Italian flavours with fresh Australian produce, local creativity and a touch of innovation.

Our pasta is still handmade, our sauces are still slow-cooked, but the experience is lighter, fresher and more contemporary. You’ll find rich ragùs and silky carbonara alongside seasonal ingredients, modern textures and subtle twists that reflect Melbourne’s diverse palate.

We ’re a fusion of Italian soul and Australian spirit. Honest food, beautifully cooked, meant to be shared with friends, family and anyone who loves a good meal without the fuss.
​OUR PROMISE
Il Sogno stands where it is today because of the love and loyalty of our community. Being part of Surrey Hills means more than serving great food. It means contributing to something bigger than ourselves.We proudly support SecondBite, one of Australia’s most impactful food rescue organisations.
​
They recover fresh, nutritious surplus food from farms, markets and supermarkets, and deliver it to people doing it tough through local charities and community programs. Each month, Il Sogno contributes enough to help provide around 1,000 meals to individuals and families in need.
This is our promise that every plate served at Il Sogno helps put food on another table too. A gesture of gratitude, shared from our family to the wider community.
